The product line of the company comprises of steam turbines for nuclear applications, plant performance software, and instrumentation products such as in-core and ex-core sensors, gamma thermometers, probes, and radiation monitors. Broadly, the company's products are classified as new reactors, nuclear fuel, reactor services, and performance services. GE-Hitachi's new reactors sector comprises of the advanced boiling water reactor and ESBWR. The company's reactor services sector provides solutions for BWR and PWR. The company is headquartered in Wilmington, the US.

In 2011, the company signed memorandum of understandings with Stocznia Gdansk S.A. and Rafako S.A. to pursue opportunities to build nuclear components for GE-Hitachi. It also signed an agreement with Lockheed Martin Corporation to design and build the advanced digital control systems and nuclear reactors. Under the agreement, Lockheed Martin’s Nuclear Systems and Solutions (NS&S) division will design and manufacture the main reactor control room systems for GE-Hitachi’s economic simplified boiling water reactors (ESBWR).
