Summary

National Atomic Company Kazatomprom (Kazatomprom) is a Kazakhstan-based atomic energy company. The company is a national operator for the import and export of uranium, rare metals, nuclear fuel for power plants, special equipment and dual-purpose materials. Kazatomprom is a diversified company and its activities include exploration, mining of natural uranium at south mining departments, production of uranium products, generation of electric and thermal power and water, output of nuclear fuel cycle products; construction of reactors and nuclear power plants; non-ferrous metallurgy and production of construction materials. The product line of the company includes uranium products, beryllium products, tantalum and niobium products. The Kazatomprom also provides scientific, technical, technological and environment consultancy services to power industry. Kazatomprom carries its operations through its joint ventures and affiliates. The company also has a major China-Kazakhstan joint venture operation. Its uranium production in 2010 totaled 17,803 tons and its uranium sales volume amounted to 9,000 tons uranium. Kazatomprom is headquartered in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

In 2010, Kazatomprom and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Company signed a long-term contract on the purchase and sale of concentrates of natural uranium. In the same year, Ulba Metallurgical Plant (UMP), a daughter enterprise of Kazatomprom and Nuclear Fuel Industries Ltd. (NFI) signed agreements on production of uranium dioxide powder intended for the Japanese nuclear fuel market. Kazatomprom and AREVA signed agreement in the segment of nuclear fuel production on implementation of joint activities in production of fuel assemblies at JSC UMP. Both the companies will construct a new line for fuel assemblies production on the basis of AREVA project for the plant located in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
